What happened

The Criminal Chamber ends their criminal liability and disqualifications in this case after accepting the Constitutional Court’s ruling.

The 20 October order concerns convicted procés leaders Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Jordi Turull and Dolors Bassa. Europa Press’s account of the order distinguishes them from defendants who have not been tried.

Votuo analysis

Removing this disqualification changes an eligibility condition for public office or elections; it does not announce a candidacy. It does not automatically settle other proceedings, people’s cases or accounting liabilities.

For election coverage, separate the effect of the order, a person’s decision to seek a candidacy and the eventual proclaimed list. This report concerns the first question. Internal ERC or Junts decisions and electoral procedures require their own evidence; the order also does not establish a new party policy commitment.
